It's been a very relaxing day for us here in ABQ. Cousin Michal has joined us for 2 days; he and Nicholas are playing Pokemon on the Wii (imagine that!). Samantha has been spending time watching videos of her dance company from years past. Nutcracker, Madeline, Jungle Book. I know she's missing her friends so this is a way for her to be "close" to them. She has been in contact with a couple of gals, especially since they've been waiting to hear which company level each has been invited to audition for.
Just before leaving on vacation, she learned that she was placed into Intermediate Aqua for this year's ballet classes. Each year, all the dancers anxiously await their placements...to find out where they will end up and which friends will be with them in class. Good news is that she advanced, along with some good friends. Bad news is that several other good friends are not with her this year (one level lower).
So, leaving for NM, the missing piece of news for Samantha was which Company she would be invited to audition for (Senior, Intermediate or Junior). She was in Petite Company her first two years, Junior Company for the last two (they eliminated Petite Company last year). She has been soooo hoping to make it into Intermediate Company for this coming year. Well, at the studio's Registration Open House yesterday, the dancers in attendance learned that all those in Intermediate Aqua (her level) will be invited to audition for Intermediate Company! Such wonderful news for her. Sadly (again), this means there are some friends who won't be in Company with her.
We assume her Company audition letter will be at the house when we return. And we are really glad that she finally heard the news from her friends...because Mat and I have known for a while now. You see, her Director shared the news with us at her end-of-year conference, but we couldn't say anything until she was formally notified. It was hard not to tell her, especially those times when she'd be talking with us about how she really wished she would make it into the Intermediate Company. It would have been great to watch her face while telling her, but that news had to come from her Director, not us. And it finally did....indirectly anyways.
So, just two days of NM time left before we head home. Heavy sigh... Why is it that vacation days fly by so much quicker than work days?
