To camp or not to camp...

If that is the question, then the answer is a resounding "YES!" We had our maiden voyage this weekend and had the best time. We didn't know if we'd find a place since we didn't make a reservation anywhere. No reservation? On Memorial Day weekend? Yes...that would be us! We really weren't sure if we wanted to try on this crazy weekend, but took the plunge. We set out with a list of campsites, figuring we'd have to hit a few before we found one with a spot for us.

Lo and behold, we lucked out at the first place we tried. It was one of the places recommended by a few friends - Fish Hook. They have some reserved sites, some "first come" sites. We just happened to pull in just after another camper left one of the "first come" sites. And guess what? A site on the river! Yes, the last one along the water. The only "bad" for this end of the campgrounds is that there is a railroad track nearby. We did have a passing train or two in the middle of the night but nothing we all couldn't fall back to sleep from.

We got our trailer up and set. It wasn't that difficult, really. Once it was up, we headed out for a look-see. We found the restrooms (a big "must") near a kid's playground (small but good for burning off some of that energy). We even managed to head down to the river a couple of times - once for a walk, once for some fishing (no fish but lots of fun). We enjoyed a simple lunch of sandwiches, chips, and potato salad. And hotdogs were the main course for dinner (along with more of the chips and salad). Finally, what's a campout without the ever-favorite s'mores! Yummmm...haven't had those since my Girl Scout days.

We ended the night playing Uno and reading bedtime stories. No TV, no radio. Just our family and nature and timne spent together. What could be better?

The next day, after getting all packed up, we headed home the long way. We stopped at several more campgrounds along the way. Figured we'd get the lay of the land so we'd know where else we wanted to stop on the next trips.

Will we be camping again? You can bet your hot chocolate, we will!
