Usually, when I say this phrase, it means we're in December and "The Nutcracker" is ready to start its run. Not so this time. We're in August, temps are decidedly MUCH higher, and the production-du-jour is "Narnia - The Musical". Yes, it's a local production and will feature a cast of 4th-12th graders. It's based on the most famous of the Chronicles of Narnia, "The Lion, The Witch, and The Wardrobe". You know the one....Peter, Susan, Edmund, and Lucy walk into a dusty wardrobe and walk out the back into the wondrous land of Narnia. Anyway, two of our friends' kids were planning to sign up for the 2-week course which culminates with the evening production on two nights. Samantha decided that it sounded like such fun that she signed on, too. And they've been having a blast of a time!
She has been cast a one of the White Witch's reindeer (her two friends are a leopard and Peter). She would have liked a "talking part" (she does sing and dance, which is just up her alley), but since this was her first crack at drama/musical theatre, it probably makes sense that she was cast as she was. Turns out Samantha's character is killed off by one of her friends (Peter). Which is only fair...since Samantha kills her girlfriend (the leopard)! What the hey - we keep it "all in the family", right?
Parents will be helping during the productions (just like at Nutcracker). So Cindy (the other mom) and I will be ushering on opening night, then in the audience (with the rest of the families) on the closing night. Then we all get to "strike the set". Translation: Work until the place is back to looking like it was before Narnia began.
