So, who knows where our poor luggage is being routed. ABQ...to join us? WA...to await our arrival home? Still in Vegas? Or some other exotic port of call? While we waited, we got to watch it snow. And snow. AND SNOW! Yes, it started sometime in the wee hours of Thursday night (or Friday morn) and continued non-stop all day Friday and into Saturday. It was "supposed" to stop at noon. Well, we kept watch of the clock and it wasn't until dinner time (aka dark) that it finally stopped. In the end, ABQ received a record-breaking snowfall. At the airport (why do they always use the airport as a gage for these types of things?), it was over 12" in one 24-hour period. At my in-laws, it had to be closer to 15".
Wait a minute! We're suppose to fly out tomorrow (Sunday)! This is NOT good. Oh, and it snowed in Denver, too (yet again). Weather for Sunday is sunny and in the low/mid 40's. Good! Let's hope it melts what's on the runways and planes.
Sunday morning comes and weather is great. Denver and ABQ airports are open for biz. But....our flight's been canceled (yet again!). What's up? Call the Sunport and the guy there tells me "we're out of de-icer". EGADS, you gotta be kidding! Jump in the car, drive to the airport (leaving kids at home with grandparents) to see "what's up". On the ride over, the local talk radio show is interviewing the Sunport rep. "All the planes are here, having arrived last night. We may have a slow start but it'll be business as usual by midday." Okay, what about this equation does not compute?
Arrive at the Sunport in time to stand in the longest line I've ever encountered at an airport. Wait and wait while United reps do their best NOT to answer questions. During the wait, I walk to baggage claim to see if our lost luggage has arrived. Nope.
We finally make our way to the front of the line.
Us: "Why was our flight to Denver canceled?"
United: "According to the computer, it's weather related?"
Us: "How can that be when you just sent two planes to Denver before ours?"
United: "I'm sorry. It just says weather related."
OUR CONCLUSION: If it's "weather related", United doesn't have to compensate us for the cancellation.
The best they can do is get us out on Thursday afternoon (remember, it's now Sunday). NOT GOOD ENOUGH! We head to US Airways (yet again) and get a flight out on Wednesday morning (if we can drive to Phoenix, we can get home tomorrow). Thank you, US Airways...we'll take it.
Return home and Mat unloads both cars. In the meantime, I'm calling US Airways in Vegas (since they were the ones who supposedly found our luggage). "Good news! If your luggage made all of its connections, it should have arrived in ABQ about 8 minutes ago!" ARGH! Weren't we JUST at the airport?
Here we go again!
To be continued...
