They wind up and dance!
Santa stuff:
Although Samantha's wish list contained a cell phone (sorry, honey, not just yet), she did get a phone for her room from Santa. She's actually very good on her phone usage so (hopefully)this won't be an issue. And like a cell phone, this phone is mobile....meaning if it takes up too much of her time, it can be moved to our room! She also got some slippers and a cute door hanger with Hoops and Yoyo (it sings a somewhat obnoxious tune...."You're in my room, you're in my room, it may not be clean but come in my room."). Nicholas got a Star Wars Lego kit, a bunch of Pokemon cards, and a BlueJay Webkins. They were both very excited and happy. Score a big "whohoo" by Santa!
Family stuff:
OMG, you'd have thought the entire block was opening gifts here! So many bags and boxes under the two trees. Yes, two trees. Jess and Clint brought one from CA when they drove here. Unbeknownst to us, the owners of the rent house had a decorated tree in the place for us to enjoy! They're awesome landlords, living just across the street.
The photo calendars were a big hit with the receivers (MIL/FIL, SIL/BIL, Samantha, and Nicholas). Then the kids opened the box from us. Tucked inside was a Wii game. Nicholas exclaimed "But we don't have a Wii...". Silence for two beats then it dawned on them..."WE'RE GONNA GET A WII, WE'RE GONNA GET A WII". Had to have them open it first since we had included "Wii accessories" as possible gift ideas on our list.
Samantha got LOTS of clothes. Some fun things from one of her fave stores, Aeropostale. Jacket, sweatjacket and pants, boots. And lots of cool dance gear from her aunt and uncle (they truly scored on these items)! Leotards, jazz pants, jazz shorts, capri-length sweatpants, legwarmers). These supplemented the sweatpants, tshirts, and socks that both MIL/FIL and we got her. Yes, socks....TONS of socks! She also got smellies from Bath and Bodyworks. A couple of Webkins. Oh, I can't even remember what else.
Nicholas got lots of many Webkins. And Bakugan(?). Not sure exactly how it's played but he was really excited to see it. Lots of Lego Star Wars stuff. Nintendo DS game. Yes, lots of stuff!
And we gave Kathy and Samantha singing bears. The same bears we got for Nana Audrey and Samantha's friends, Rachel and Cassandra. I think the bears were a hit with both of them. Kathy's sings "My Favorite Things" while Samantha's sings "I Hope You Dance".
Speaking of dancing, we got Kathy tickets to the "Dancing with the Stars" tour (which just happened to here while we're in the Phoenix area). Instead of just wrapping the printed tickets, we played charades and had Kathy guess her gift. Samantha came out carrying a couple of cutout stars as she danced across the floor. Get it? DANCING with the STARS?? Okay, it's a little cheesey but it worked! And while the girls do the dancing thing, the boys will have just watched the Arizona Cardinals host the Seattle Seahawks. Gee, we fly hundreds of miles away from home only to find the local team is playing the Hawks. What's up with that?
We got several DVDs of movies we love (Mamma Mia, Wall-E, Pirates...World's End, and Enchanted) so we'll be doing a movie fest while here. And a new VersaPod for our camera (been wanting one since spying the one Cindy and Thomas own). A new Nambe dated ornament. Some cash/gift cards. Much too much stuff.
Mat opened his gift from the kids...an Americans jersey (very cool). And I got him a converter for the van so he can listen to his iPod while driving. He has one that plugs into the car lighter outlet, but the outlet is sitting on the floorboard so he can't see the iPod screen. So, we'll move it the the Accord and he can use this one (which has a length of cable attached).
And speaking of iPods, I am the proud owner of a new iPod Touch (whoohoo). As soon as I update the blog, it'll be pulled out, charged up, and played with. I even got a big box of Bazzill from my MIL (good thing people know I'm a scrapper, huh?).
As you can see, we were all spoiled this Christmas. But more importantly, we're together, healthy (somewhat...several of us are fighting colds), and happy.
