Second Place finish

Got home from our second All-Star tournament last night. Three days, six games. Talk about being immersed in baseball!

Friday, we drove to Wenatchee for an 8-team tourney. Won our first game handily. Had two games on Saturday. Took a narrow 14-13 win in game #2, though it shouldn't have been that close. But sometimes, it happens. The second game (#3 for the tourney) was another big win.

So, going into Sunday's playoffs, we were 3-0. In the first round game, Nicholas got the starting pitcher nod. And he delivered. Pitched the first 3 innings, no runs scored. He only gave up one hit (a second batter got on base from an infield error). He also turned a double play, catching the ball hit by the batter, then throwing out the kid at 2nd. One of his good friends, D.J. (also on Nicholas' regular season team), took over in the 4th to shut things down. Our team won (10-run rule). Nicholas and D.J. combined to throw a 1-hit shutout (in the regular season, they combined for a shutout no-hitter over 6 innings).

For each game played in the tourney, each coach is given an "MVP" ball. At the end of the game, each team awards the ball to a player from the opposing team who they felt did a great job (MVP). Nicholas received the MVP ball for the game he pitched. He also had a great hit that game! WHOHOOO!

The team went on to win game #2 of the playoffs which sent them into the final game undefeated. They faced the only other undefeated team...who just happens to be our cross-town rival. Sadly, we lost this one. Hate to lose but the other team played the better game this time around. NOTE: We played them last weekend in our tournament and beat them. So, we're 1-and-1 against each other.

Looking forward to the next tournament...this weekend! Yep, we'll be playing America's pasttime on America's holiday!
