He is the Champion, My Friends...

HAPPY BIRTHDAY, America...okay, I'm a little bit late but we had one busy weekend. Yep, It was the All-Star team's third tournament in three weekends. Luckily, it was a local one...but, MAN, was it hot, hot, HOT! We had record high temps in town. I suppose it was appropriate since the name of the tournament was "Feel the Heat".

Anyway, the boys played great, winning all 4 games in their pool. Being undefeated meant they earned a first round bye during Sunday's championship bracket. The winner of the other pool was also undefeated so got a first round bye.

There were two first-round games. Once those winners were determined, the two undefeated teams took the field against one of them.

For the first game, Nicholas' team ended up playing the team that knocked them out of the championship game two weeks ago. This time, they won 12-5.

The other undefeated team also won their first game so we played each other in the championship game. Add to the mix: that other team is our cross-town rivals. YEP, the same team that beat us by 10 runs at last w/e's tournament. So you KNOW our boys REALLY wanted to win this one.

The game started out close. At the end of the first inning, our team was behind 2-4. But that didn't deter our kids; they really stepped it up. They not only kept hitting on offense, they played tough defense. Our team ended up hitting 4 homeruns during the game (2 were grand slams), running through 7 of their pitchers. On defense, we shut down their offense so that those first 4 runs were the only ones they scored. Final score: 19 to 4!

During those 2 games on Sunday, Nicholas was 2-for-4 at the plate, had 5 RBIs, and scored 3 runs. The team did a great job; they didn't let last w/e's loss to this team get to them. So, we've beat our rivals 2 of the 3 times we've faced them, with each of the two teams bringing back a Championship trophy. Not a bad showing for either team.
