Yep, tis the time of year that we all look forward to...Christmas vacation. Been waiting anxiously and it's finally here. But the time sure flew by. Hope the vacation doesn't do likewise.
Nutcracker 2009 finished up this past Monday and it was another huge success. Samantha dances beautifully (of course) and enjoyed every moment of it. The Fairy number at the beginning of Act 2 went as expected. The number hasn't changed since the last time she danced it, although she did get a new costume for being in the group of "big wing fairies" (the tallest 6). The Russian number was really good and the dancers pulled it off nicely (with a cast of 16 plus the soloist). Mary (my co-Chair) and I were the House Managers (think this is my 4th time) and luckily, we had to major issues to contend with. The lobby was beautifully decorated (...thank you very much...) and ushers in place. Mat worked the Monday performance (2 shows for local area 5th graders) so it was truly a family affair.
Nicholas also had two basketball games this past Saturday. And the Scorpions won both, with Nicholas scoring double digits for the first time (10 points in the opener). Samantha and I got to see that game, though we had to miss the 2nd one.
Sadly, Mat's parents weren't able to attend as planned. Bob recently had hip replacement surgery and wasn't 100%. Since we all wanted to make sure he would be fully recovered for Christmas, the decision was made to pass on the visit.
Tomorrow is the first day of our official vacation (though mine started on Thursday). After a stressful drive to Spokane in the thickest fog we've seen in a long time, we are now in our hotel room. Our flight to leaves in the morning and if all goes well, we should be in New Mexico in time for dinner (assuming no delays...fingers crossed)... and something with green chiles!
