When Two Worlds Collide

Dance. Baseball. They are both a huge part of our world. So why shouldn't these two separate worlds come together at the same time.

Festival 2010: This annual dance event is one that our ballet company looks forward to each year. Last year, Samantha and I got to attend the Festival in Provo, UT. It was the 11-plus hour drive from heck. Not because of the dancers in the bus, but because of the LONG bus ride. This year, our company hosted the Festival. There were 23+ companies in attendance. All the dancers took various classes over the course of 3-days (ballet, pointe, jazz, modern, mime, and seminars), with performances on each of the four nights. Our senior company closed out the final night with a wonderful performance. Samantha and her eight fellow Intermediate Company dancers were chaperoned by Melissa, a former company dancer. The nine girls stayed with Melissa from about 8 a.m. until after the evening performances which ended after 8 p.m. From the looks of the photos she took, they all had a fabulous time.

All-Star Selection: While Samantha was busy dancing, Nicholas was anxiously awaiting the results of this year's All-Star Team selection process. Different than last year (when the All-Star coach selected the team), this year's process began with selection of the Top Ten for each team by a panel comprised of the regular season coaches (7 of them) and some Board members. We thought Nicholas had a great season (even if our team didn't fair quite as well)...and the coaches must have thought so, too, because he was voted onto the team. After selection of the Top Ten, the coach was selected (panel consisting of four coaches from the regular season and some Board members). The coach got to pick the final two members of the team. And if it wasn't enough that Nicholas made the All-Star team, Mat was selected to be one of the two assistant coaches.

Samantha and Nicholas. Both stepping up their game. Both doing what they love with such a passion. Two worlds become one.
