Go Scorpions!

It's a weekend of America's favorite pasttime for us as Nicholas plays in his second tournment. The team chose Scorpions as their mascot. So the coach ordered a very cool banner proudly proclaiming their team name. And Mat ordered some of those cool wash-off tattoos of a "wicked cool" scorpion. Being the wonderful dad and assistant coach that he is, he drove all the way home to pick up the tattoos. The company was supposed to overnight them so they'd be here earlier this week. When Mat called, they checked the system and realized they'd mistakenly sent them to Australia. HELLO? I don't recall moving to Australia (tho I'd love to visit someday). Anyway, the tattoos arrived after we left for our first game on Friday (2 hrs away). And since Mat wanted to give the kids something cool to inspire and motivate them, he went home and got them. What a guy!

Lucky for us, the weather has been just about perfect. Overcast with a slight breeze. The wind did kick up as we were watching a game this evening, but we were leaving for dinner so didn't have to deal with it. Sadly, the Scorpions lost both of their first 2 games. Played well defensively, but if you ain't hitting, you ain't winning. Nicholas pitched in both games (2 innings each) and did a great job. He's the youngest person from our Little League playing in the tournament. He's in the 9U (nine-and-under) division and doing a great job. He may not pitch as hard/fast as some of the other kids, but he's accurate and consistent. So, there are times that the other team manages to hit off of him. But then our defense can do their thing. Much better than having a pitcher who's walking too many batters.

They will play two more games tomorrow. One at 10am, the other at 2pm. Gives the kids time to get a little rest and have some lunch. The boys on his team are all good kids and seem to really be enjoying themselves. I'm sure they'd enjoy it more if they could win a game or two, but we knew going in that they'd be fighting an uphill battle (being the "C" team compared to the "A" All-Stars and the "B" Tournament teams). They are playing well, getting experience, and having fun. What better way to spend the summer!!
