Sunshine Saturday...Part 1

The weather has not been, shall we say, cooperative as of late. Rain, wind, and thunderstorms have forced rescheduled baseball games for a few weeks now - during regular season and our first All-Star tournament. Well, someone must have put their order in early this time because yesterday was gorgeous. And it was the one day we HAD to have great weather, for two reasons.''

Reason 1: Baseball

Yesterday was the 2nd day of the intercity tournament. Originally, scheduled for Friday night, we got bumped to Saturday morning to accommodate the rained out games from earlier in the week. We faced off against our league's 2nd place team, Milestones. We had never beat this team during league play. And for good reason. With Milestones' draft position, they ended up with 4 of Nicholas' All-Star teammates on their roster (as well as some pretty good 11 and 12 year olds). I'm sure they were expecting an easy win. Although they did get the "W", they found themselves in the midst of quite a battle.

Once again, it was the Nicholas and Colten show. Nicholas pitched the first 3; Colten finished out the game. The game was tight right up to the end. Milestones took a 1-run lead into the sixth-and-final inning. Our boys HAD to score at least one run to tie the game and force their opponents to bat. And they found a way to do just that, bringing in the tying run. Unfortunately, they only got the one run and, with 2 outs in the bottom of the sixth, they scored the winning run. Final score: 7-6. Although we didn't win the game, our boys played one of their best games of the season. And as the morning wore on, other KN coaches stopped by to say they'd heard about our great game.

With the loss, we had to play another game immediately after. Gee, back-to-back baseball....where've we seen THIS before? And another deja vue moment? We had to face the same KA team we played in our first game back on Tuesday. We knew we beat this team before...and we planned to do it again.

Nicholas started and pitched 2 great innings. Jamas came in for 1-1/3, then Colten came in to finish things off. When it was all done, we walked away with a 10-6 win. Not too bad for a morning's work.
