We knew it was coming. As soon as we learned that Samantha was missing 5 permanent teeth, we knew braces were in her future. We were just waiting for one baby tooth to make its exodus...which it finally did, just before IBC. So, she was scheduled to get her brackets and wires upon her return. The day after her return.
Getting braces doesn't seem to be quite as traumatic nowadays as it was when I was growing up. It didn't seem that as many kids got braces back then. And when they did, it was a very sad day. These days, so many kids have or are getting braces. In fact, she's one of the last of her group of friends to get them. So getting them was almost like a rite of passage.
Her ortho is the same one that I had...thus giving us the "family discount". She seemed to do well getting them put on...and has done well since them. She's watching what she eats and is doing a good job in upkeep. That's our girl!
