After our traditional green chile/sausage/egg casserole, we sat back while each person opened gifts. For the last few years, we've watched each gift be open, one by one. Several years ago (when the whole NM extended family met in Roswell), there were waaaaay too many people and waaaaay too many presents to allow us this luxury. And as always, everyone was much too generous. Every one of us received many items on our wish lists. I got my Rock Band guitar! Yep. Ever since we got Rock Band for our Wii, only three of us could play along. Now, all four of us will be able to rock-and-roll! I also got some SW jewelry to add to my collection, sports "stuff" (including cooler bags and water bottle to be used at next year's ball games), and other uber-cool goodies. Oh, mustn't forget the new neon orange hardshell cover for my lil Fuji. She's looking mighty sporty!
As always, kids were spoiled with all the fun stuff they found under the tree. Nicholas and cousin Michal got lots of Legos and video games (for Wii and Nintendo DS). And Nicholas got some fun baseball gear, including stuff for his favorite baseball team, the Boston Red Sox (hat, t-shirt, and wallet). Why Red Sox, you ask? We have no idea. Samantha received more gift cards than in previous years (guess that's what you get when you're an almost teenager), plus some jewelry, funky sox, and Bath & Bodyworks goodness.
We had the added bonus of having Clint's family join us for Christmas dinner. And it was a good thing they were here. As much leftovers as we had at the end of the day, we'd have had even more if they weren't here.
On Saturday, we made the 3-hour trek to Roswell to celebrate Christmas all over again. This time, it was lunch with extended family (Mat's uncles/aunts and their kids). All the families except Chad and Kris' were able to join us (they spent the day with her family...guess we have to share). After a wonderful meal, the second round of gift giving commenced. Always great fun to see little ones opening gifts; to watch the big smiles light up their faces.
Once all the packages were opened, Kathy and Bob (Mat's parents) handed out their gift to each family. A binder containing photocopies of letters between HER grandparents...circa 1916. YES! Wonderful letters written by two people very much in love. It was THE best gift of the season, especially to this scrapbooker.
